Collecting Trends for June ‘09

Hand blown glass lamp bases with white drum shades are very popular right now. There are many colors of glass to choose from. It is summer and it is time to enjoy the outdoors. How about a picnic? You are going to need a great vintage picnic basket. There are lots of styles and they are reasonably priced. Finally, anything with the beach theme. Sail boats, lighthouses, glass fishing floats and shells.

The piece of furniture for this month seems to be the upholstered side chair. It doesn’t really matter what the fabric is used. Big wing backed chairs to smaller more contemporary styles. Once again, there is the outdoor furniture. Or should I say the outside room? It is not just furniture. It is the accessories, lighting and  fabrics.  It is also, how the ’room’ is used. Entertaining, quiet night for two or a place to spend with the family.

It is what you would expect for Spring. Thoughts lean to the outside and our gardens. Wrought iron furniture looks like it is going to be hot this year. It is beautiful and durable but not cheap. Hopefully there will be bargains this year at the sales. The birds are flying and are landing on china plates and fabrics. Robins, sparrows etc. Floral patterns for upholstery fabrics. Besides those mentioned above no one garden item stands out. All the magazines have a wide variety of items.

Collecting Trends for March ’09

Country Living magazine’s March 2009 issue includes their picks for the things to collect this year. The stuck to the items that are readily available, small and they won’t deflate your wallet. Buttons, pincushions, swizzle sticks, skeleton keys and a few more. Check out the magazine. It is a good one to have on hand. Also, there have been a couple of articles on glass. Clear and colored. I am not too sure about this. Glass has really not sold very well the last couple of years. As long as dealers keep their prices reasonable and showcase them in real life situations ( window sills, tabletops etc) it could gain some popularity.

Nothing really jumped out as the ‘new’ thing to look out for. We will have to wait until next month.

Collecting Trends for January ‘09

Big Ben alarm clocks: They are small. Great retro look. Easy to find. You can pick one up fairly cheap. Just remember to wind them up.

Old recipe booklets: Great graphics. Look good framed.  Group of framed booklets on the wall, even better. Easy to find and cheap.

Silhouettes:  Do a little research. Harder to find and prices will vary.
